Ep 60 – Name Your Image Files

The Marketing Drive

Short marketing message that you can use right now!

Welcome to Episode 60 of The Marketing Drive with Chris Doelle.

Everyone should know you NEED images in your posts online. The image you have uploaded can help you get attention from search engines just like the post it is on! Rather than have on the the randomly generated, no meaning names like "0pASJS!f4123.jpg" name it what it is for example if it is for a tooth paste then name it "whitening toothpaste.jpg" and it will be picked up by searches!

This show is so named because I record it unscripted and unedited on my commute to work. When an idea pops in my head, I hit record. You get my off-the-cuff take on anything related to marketing your business. Be sure to send your show ideas and questions and I will use them for future shows!

Today, I wanna talk about your images on your website, everybody knows by now that you should have images in your post. If you're into content creation, if you are into writing blogs and you understand what that all about. If you don't understand what any of that is all about go back in the show and listen to one of the earlier ones but when you upload an image with your blog, a lot of people don't take advantage of the super power that's behind those images. They may get a pile. Let's say there is a dentist, and they get  a new tool that is super whitening and it really helps everything and it's like the best tool over. They will put a picture of it, they will blog about it, they will write about it, there, you see the name of the product that talks about teeth whitening, they will to all that in the post and that is valuable but the image they will upload will be 34567_2.jpeg which means nothing. So, it's a very simple thing. You go in there, you change the filename before you upload it, change it to the 4507 Whitener or whatever the device is or change it to something like amazing piece lightener hardware or whatever, something that has a value, something that Google can use. I discovered this cash a decade ago, that when I was doing first starting up the website littlestartrediron.com, have a Texas High School Football site. I have mentioned it a few times on here and I used to do same thing everybody does like I upload pictures, everything about it but we should stop and said "well, let me start marking them, let's start changing the file on these 2 things like Texas High School Football just Generic things and all of a sudden Boom! My hits started growing up, then I got more detailed when I have a picture of let's say "The Austin Lake Travis taking on a Longview Lobos, I will now name that file "The Austin Lake Travis Vs Longview Lobos" and then, the next step, this is the Gold on half of another, it's the whole analogy, I would say, this is the icing on top of the cake, the goal on top of something else. In addition to that, you go into what it's called the Alt text and you can then put in some information, you can put in more information about it where you can say "Austin Lake Travis Vs Longview Lobos" and put the date and mention Texas High School Football game, you can mention the location it is played. Maybe the people who are in the photo, as much as information as you want, you can put it to that Alt text, understand that Google will not read 40 paragraphs, wo keep it down to  140 characters are left and then I am just guessing that, it's not the exact number, I cannot remember the exact number but yes you put that information in there and all of that become searchable but not as powerful as  the name of that file. So you and I have uploaded identical photos right? you named your file exactly what the photo is. I haven't named the file but I've gone it to my old takes and all enough details and all that. You're still gotta come up hired because that's direct name as a lot worth value, a whole lot relevance to the search. So, take advantage of that and if you don't know how talk to your web guy, give us a call, whatever but it is "Gold" so do not ignore it.
