Welcome to Episode 7 of The Marketing Drive with Chris Doelle.

This show is so named because I record it unscripted and unedited on my commute to work. When an idea pops in my head, I hit record. You get my off-the-cuff take on anything related to marketing your business. Be sure to send your show ideas and questions and I will use them for future shows! As I travel the roads of Texas serving clients in Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Austin, Waco and every place in-between I will record these. Sorry when I am flying out of state, they frown on recording in the airplane. 🙂

Today, I want to talk about showing your work and sharing what you know. I am a big believer in putting all your information out there and that’s what I’m doing here. I’m kind of telling you what works for me. One, it’s proof of concept you go "Oh my gosh, here is exactly what he does" but I've had some people come up to me and say "Dude, why would you do that? Why would you give either your clients a blow-by-blow of how you do what you do? Or worse, your competition, why would you tell them step-by-step how to do your job? Doesn't that hurt you?" and I kind of take an Eastern approach to it. I think I heard this related to martial arts and eastern culture. I think I have heard this before in eastern philosophy, the idea that says "I don’t mind showing you what it is I do because if my competition is watching me to get an edge to figure out what I’m doing, they’re playing my game already, so, I’m already ahead of them. In their mind space, they have put me ahead of them and you may not go in for the whole hoodoo voodoo, you know, mind part of it all but I certainly do and your mind determines so many things, so many of your outcomes are determined by your mindset, so I do not mind, I want it all out there, and that's what this show is about. When you're client of mine, I will show  you step-by-step, here's how I do it. Feel free if you want to, okay, do it! You don't need me but there’s a lot of value in the little things that come up and the fact that it’s a lot of work to do it right, it's a lot of mind space to get everything set up just right and to keep that flow going. So I have job security, because I will have some clients who will say "Okay, I wanna try this, I'm gonna try this part of it, let's say, there is 15 steps in the marketing plan, but I can handle this part, I can do the blogging or I can post to Facebook, they always wanna pick one that they think they could do and they do and when they do it, well, boom! I love it because that's something else I don't have to do and I can count that they’re going to do it well. So, usually what happens though is, then, at the next step, they'll say "Okay, I want to do this part also" and the next step, some of them, go pretty deep with these steps but nobody yet has gotten to the point where  I hand them the blueprint, they all got it, I'll do it all and they do it and they don't need me anymore. they always come, bring me back as a consultant to check on things. So, I say, show your work, share your work and it puts you in a better position.
